Being a cloud system administrator isn’t all architecture diagrams and shiny dashboards. Some days it’s digging through logs at 2 AM because a bill spiked. Other days it’s explaining to a dev why their “quick fix” broke permissions for the whole org.
A good cloud system administrator learns the platform, sure. But a great one learns the people. You bridge the gap between what the cloud can do and what the team actually needs. You lock down IAM without locking out productivity. You automate the boring stuff so the interesting stuff gets done.
If you’re stepping into this role, protect your sleep schedule. Automate alerts so you’re not woken up for nonsense. Document everything, even if it feels like nobody reads it. Eventually, somebody will. Probably you.
The cloud changes fast. But the core job of a cloud system administrator stays the same: keep things running, keep things safe, and keep your cool when they aren’t.
